Meet Supremo WL, one of our promising 4-year-olds currently progressing through our development program.

Supremo, by Istambul SS and out of Hera, is a sibling to the last two horses we recently shared and has become a daily riding partner for @zemariafialho . His sportive type, natural balance, suspension, and expressive gaits give us great optimism for his future in the dressage arena.

We’re excited to follow his journey. ✨

Did our buckskin factory do it again? ✨

Jocosa’s colt this year is once again one of the most striking in the @wasatchlusitanos herd, with his almond-colored eyes and smoky foal coat. Sired by Portugal’s Working Equitation Champion, Istambul SS, and sibling to our rising star Santarém WL, this special young Lusitano is already showing so much promise.

We know his sire carries the potential to produce bay, black, and chestnut, so what do you think — will we have another golden boy, or maybe a black one this time? 🐴

Remember our male champion Santarém? ✨

Since earning the Champion of Champions at the @uslusitano Model and Movements competitions in October 2024, he has developed tremendously under our team’s program.

Presented then — and still ridden today — by @tomas_da_isabel , Santarém (Istambul SS out of Lisboa MAC) continues to show exceptional balance, natural talent for flying changes, and beautiful collection, clearly following in the footsteps of his sire, Portugal’s 2025 Champion of Working Equitation at Masters level.

Santarém is just one of many promising horses in our development program.

After some intense weekends of competition, we’re

After some intense weekends of competition, we’re finally back home at our farm in Tennessee. It feels good to slow down and reconnect with the herd.

We already have five beautiful foals on the ground, and yesterday we returned Príncipe SS to his group of mares.

Our silver prince has truly become the king of Wasatch Lusitanos, maturing into a majestic stallion. We can’t wait to introduce his foals to you soon!

Our lovely Nero from Carvalho Matos Stud finally had his moment to shine at last weekend’s Adequan’s @globaldressagefestival Week 10 (National).

Competing at Prix St. Georges under the saddle of our rider @zemariafialho , he secured an honorable 3rd place on Saturday. But more importantly, he captured the hearts of the audience—and even the event’s photography team—earning a highlight feature on @centrelinemedia ’s social media pages.

We couldn’t be prouder of our silver horse-and-rider team. We’re confident Nero will continue making us proud every step of the way.

Teamwork paid off! 🐎✨

On the way to Wellington for the Adequan’s @globaldressagefestival week 10 (national), we set off with a feeling something special was ahead.

Our two horses behaved like true champions—always attentive to @zemariafialho ’s timely aids, both during warm-up and, especially, in their tests. Paladin WL stood out in his USEF Third Level Test, earning an impressive 67.702% and securing a place on the podium! 🏆

We couldn’t be prouder of our golden horse-and-rider team. As Paladin continues to gain experience, we’re confident the scores will only keep rising!

Last weekend we were quite busy — and buzzing with anticipation — as @zemariafialho took Nero CCM for a ride out of our home facilities.

Mission (well!) accomplished! Afterward, Nero clearly enjoyed some well-deserved rest, happily munching on some nice quality hay and catching up on sleep. 🐴🌾

This full moon brought us a special gift — Salsa WL’s first foal, sired by the incredible Poison CCM. 🌕🐴

Moments like this remind us how important it is to build and maintain a true connection with our mares. That bond shows from the very first interactions their foals have with us. Can you see Salsa encouraging her newborn to greet Tomás?

@tomas_da_isabel was one of Salsa’s presenters during the 2024 @uslusitano Model & Movements competitions, and it’s beautiful to see that trust still shining through.

Foaling season is in full bloom, and we’re thrilled to welcome our very first boy of 2026! 🐴✨

By Poison CCM and out of Nigra MAC, this sturdy, typical colt already shows all the promise of growing into a true dark bay stunner. Strong, correct, and full of presence — we couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season.

We can’t wait to see — and share with you — the upcoming foals by Poison (@lusitanos.carvalhomatos ) as well as the very first arrivals by our own Principe SS. Stay tuned… the best is yet to come! 🌟

This is truly our favorite time of year 🤍

Not just because the seasons are changing — winters at Wasatch Lusitanos can be brisk — but because there’s a special kind of warmth that comes with welcoming a new generation of foals into our pastures.

Under the light of this last full moon, we were blessed with our first filly of the year ✨ A curious, gentle, yet sturdy buckskin girl by Paladin (from our previous post) and out of Que-Perola. Our rider @tomas_da_isabel stopped by to say hello… and received the cutest little greeting in return. We think it’s safe to say the feeling was mutual 🐴💛

Fulfilling days for our riders ✨

Each horse is a constant work in progress. As breeders, we set high expectations—especially since we manage the development of every one of our horses ourselves.

This weekend, we put our Lusitano stallion Paladin to the test. After competing in Model & Movements in 2024 and dressage in 2025, we are now continuing his journey toward the highest levels of dressage.

We kicked off the year at Ocala’s @worldequestriancenter , where Paladin competed at St. George level under the saddle of @zemariafialho . He completed his test with great effectiveness, marking an important milestone both for Paladin and for our stud.

This is just the beginning—many more competitions lie ahead for our horses & riders this year. Stay tuned! 🐎

Exciting news from the birthplace of the Lusitano 🇵🇹🐴

From today and throughout the weekend, Lisbon’s main equestrian center @sociedade_hipica_portuguesa receives one of the most important events for the Lusitano breed. This is where prospect stallions are presented to the @apsl_official judges for evaluation — a key moment to assess the evolution of breeding programs and the vision each stud farm brings forward in selecting future sires.

This year, nearly 100 stallions are competing for entry into the Adult Studbook, making this an especially competitive and exciting edition.

We’re proud to share that two of these stallions belong to our own @nvicente_matos . Wishing him the very best of luck! 🤞✨
